hermitage & the Steinalm

Since the 16th century, people made pilgrimages in Saalfelden to the cave above Lichtenberg Castle, where the portrait of St. George, the patron saint of animals, is revered. Thomas Pichler built the cave in 1664 the cave in which the image of St. Georg was worshiped into a chapel.

The Einsiedelei (hermitage) is a wonderful place for recreation. Together with the nearby Steinalm both have beautiful views to the valleys of Pinzgau.
